The Texas A&M program in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy is one of many study abroad experiences offered to students. The Italian program is unique in that it offers a centralized campus community. Texas A&M students live and study in a familiar setting within the beautiful hill town of Castiglion Fiorentino (a small Italian community of 11,000) and 340 meters above sea level. The center sits on the southeast edge of the walled city, overlooking the Val di Chio that connects to the much larger Val di Chiana. The city is of Etruscan origin with subsequent Roman development. Castiglion Fiorentino is 15 km (=9,3 miles) south of Arezzo, a historic town of approximately 100,000, which itself lies only 48 km (=29.8 miles) south of Florence (city of origin for Renaissance art and architecture). Arezzo is the birthplace of the Renaissance architect Giorgio Vasari, and the poet Francesco Petrarca. |
