Equipment The classroom equipment at Santa Chiara includes: slide projector; cd player; various computers and printers; some t-squares and scales; drafting tables and stools; light table; overhead projector; VCR (plays American or European videos) - for class related activities only; TV/VCR (plays only European tapes) - for student use; DVD player plays both Regions I, II, Digital projector with sound system.. This equipment is owned by various academic colleges at A&M or by Italart. Internet and Email There is a computer lab at the Study Center that provides students with email and internet access on IBM computers. There are four PCs and a networked printer available to students. This can be used for e-mail and limited internet access. Due to the expense of providing a full internet connection in Italy, the access is done through a dial up service. Students have private e-mail accounts and may send messages at any time. These are stored and sent out at one time to diminish the cost of the dial up connection. In-coming e-mails are downloaded during these times into the student accounts, maintaining privacy for the students. The computer lab was installed in July 1999 and has experienced some start up difficulties that are being resolved as they occur. In 2005, a wireless connection was added. Wireless Internet The Santa Chiara wireless network consists of three base stations (wireless transmitters which allow laptops and other wireless capable devices to connect to the internet without a network cable). The three wireless stations are respectively in the computer lab, the office/lobby area, and in the TAMU faculty office. Signal strength is excellent in these areas and good to fair all over the main floor. You can also gain internet access at the city library and at Graphic Design Shop near the train station. There are also Internet cafes in Arezzo and in Florence. The University recently installed an email station at Santa Chiara. You will receive a password and student number when you check in. You will receive your address once you arrive in Italy. |
