How to Apply

 

Now that you have decided upon which program best fits your interests and needs, you are now ready to begin an application. For more details on how to apply, please refer to the procedures below:

Applying to a Program

Please follow these instructions to apply online for an international experience.

  1. Go to Programs at the top of the page and search for the program to which you wish to apply. You can search for your program by name, location, and/or other variables. Be sure to review the program information to make sure it matches the program you have chosen.

    a. NOTE: If your sponsoring university/program provider for the Transfer Credit Study Abroad Program or Research/Internship/Volunteer Experience that you have selected is NOT listed in Texas A&M Study Abroad online search engine, please complete the Study Abroad Program Request Form
     

  2. b. NOTE: If you are participating in a research abroad experience or international conference, please search for “Research Abroad” or “International Conference,” respectively, within the SAPO search engine to register your experience with our office.

  3. Once you find your program, you will need to verify whether the program is currently accepting applications. If it is, click "Apply Now" and the system will ask if you are currently a registered user at Texas A&M University.
  4. As a Texas A&M University student: You will answer "Yes" and you will be able to log in by using your NETID and password. If you are not a currently enrolled student at Texas A&M, please be aware that only select programs are open to students prior to applying and being accepted as a non degree-seeking, transient student. Therefore, please contact your programs’ advisor or the Study Abroad Programs Office for more details.

    The next screen will present your general information distributed in different sections. You can find the program you have applied on the "Application Filed" section. On the other sections, you will be able to upload a picture of yourself, view any information requests, messages, your Mobile Phone Text Messaging, your address on file and additional information you may want to submit.

  5. On the "Application Filed" section, you will see the name of your program highlighted in blue. Click on the name of the program to access your application.

Right after you apply, your application will be in the PRE-DECISION PHASE (scroll below for a glossary of the application phases) and considered Pending. Your application page is divided into several categories.

The Pre-Decision phase requirements for your study abroad application may include some or all of the following:

·         Material Items: Documents that you will need to print, complete and return to the Study Abroad Programs Office.

·         Signature Documents: Documents you will need to read thoroughly and electronically sign. These include Texas A&M University Terms of Participation, FERPA waiver, Health Insurance Acknowledgement, Withdrawal Policy, as well as other documents required by your program. We will not be able to process your application unless you have electronically signed these documents.

·         Application Questionnaires: Online questionnaires, including general and financial aid information, to be completed as part of your application. All Pre-Decision questionnaires must be completed before your application will be processed.

·         Recommendations: Some programs require recommendation letters. Click "Recommendations" to send request online through the Texas A&M directory or enter the your references name and email address.

  1. While your application is pending, you will receive automated reminders via email about the items you must still submit to complete your application.

  3. Once your application is complete and reviewed, you will receive an email with the final decision letter about your acceptance. You must access your application and COMMIT to the program to secure your participation on the program which you apply. Once you are accepted, and have committed to the program, your application will change to the POST-DECISION PHASE. You will be required to submit additional signature documents, material items, and questionnaires and complete additional Learning Content & Assessments in this phase. Please remember to apply for a passport or renew your current passport, if necessary and investigate any visas or additional documentation that you might need to secure.

GLOSSARY of PHASES

ADVISING PHASE

A student is considered in the ADVISING PHASE when he or she has created an account or logged-in to StudioAbroad but has not completed a specific program application to study abroad. Students in the ADVISING PHASE will complete an Advising Questionnaire to help find an appropriate study abroad program.


PRE-DECISION PHASE

A student is considered in the PRE-DECISION PHASE when he or she has started a program application. A student will remain in the PRE-DECISION PHASE until the program application has been completed and reviewed by the Study Abroad Advisor and Faculty Leader.


POST-DECISION PHASE


Once a student has been Accepted to the program, he or she is in the POST-DECISION PHASE. In this phase the student will be required to complete additional information for the program. A student will remain in this phase until the program begins.


WHILE ABROAD PHASE

Once the study abroad program in which the student is participating has started, student will be moved into the WHILE ABROAD PHASE. In this phase the student may or may not be required to complete additional paperwork that will vary by program and program type.


RETURNEE/ALUMNI PHASE


Once the study abroad program in which the student is participating has ended, a student will be moved into the RETURNEE or ALUMNI PHASE. In this phase the student will be asked to complete program evaluations and other required paperwork that will vary by program & program type.
