Funding for Underrepresented Groups


Underrepresented students interested in funding for study abroad programs have numerous offices on campus to utilize for funding resources: the TAMU Honors Program Office and the Student Financial Aid Office provide listings of some other funding sources outside of Texas A&M. Additionally, many funding options are available for both undergraduate as well as graduate students, and can be found on the main scholarship pages listed above.

The following scholarships are unique to only underrepresented students:

Minority International Research Training Grant Program (MIRT) - Research-training opportunities to qualified eligible students and faculty to participate in international biomedical and behaviourial research prgrams abroad.

Pickering Fellowship with the Department of State - Undergraduate tuition, room and board and internships in the State Department as well as overseas; graduate fellowships tuition and internships.

Woodrow Wilson International Fellowship Foundation - Information on several multi-year scholarship programs for students, especially minorities, interested in international careers.

NAFSA Rainbow Special Interest Group (SIG) - Has resources and scholarships for LGBT's.

AIFS Minority Scholarship - Full to partial scholarships for AIFS programs.

Institute for International Public Policy

National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Fellowships and Minority Graduate Fellowships - For three years of graduate study at a US or foreign institution in the fields of mathematical, physical, biological, engineering and social sciences, and history and philosophy of science. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

HACU Laureate International Scholarship Program - Laureate International Universities and HACU have teamed together to offer more than $8 million in tuition scholarships to encourage Latinos to study abroad throughout Europe and Latin America. This scholarship gives students the opportunity to study at one of Laureate’s 15 universities. Students who are accepted into the HACU-Laureate International Scholarship Program will have the opportunity to spend up to one full year at schools in Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, France, Chile, Honduras, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Panama or Peru.

Robert Bailey Minority Scholarship for Study Abroad through CIEE - Available to CIEE Study Center (CSC) applicants only. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, and self-identified as belonging to an underrepresented group.

SIT Minority Scholarship - For SIT applicants only. Awards generally range from $500 to $4,000 and are merit and need based.
