International Education Fee Scholarship
The International Education Fee Bill originally was passed by the 72nd Texas State Legislature and by a Texas A&M student referendum. It provided for a $1 fee to be collected from Texas A&M (College Station) students every semester beginning Fall 1991. On June 5, 2001 Governor Rick Perry signed HB2218 which allowed for the $1.00 fee to increase to $4.00 beginning Spring 2002. The bill and the referendum stated that $2.50 of the $4.00 will be used immediately while the other $1.50 will be set aside to create an endowment that would generate future scholarships, allowing for the $4.00 fee to be eliminated sometime near 2020. The purpose of the fee is to assist Texas A&M University-College Station students with the cost of an international educational experience. All money collected will go to the student scholarship fund – none of it is to be diverted in any way for administrative or any other costs. A committee comprised of faculty members, administrators, and students establishes
the guidelines for distribution of the fee at Texas A&M University.
Funding can be $500 or $1,000, depending on the length of the program. At the
time of the scholarship application, the student must be enrolled at Texas A&M
College Station campus and must be full time unless they are doing work towards
a degree at Texas A&M University that does not require full registration (i.e.
study abroad program, co-op, internship or international practicum, etc.).
It is the policy of Texas A&M University that in all aspects of its operations
each person shall be considered solely on the basis of qualifications, without
regard to race, sex, religion, national origin, age, disabilities, or veteran
status.
