Tony Listi
Political Science
Tony
Listi is a junior Political Science
major and Philosophy minor from
Dallas, Texas. He attended private
Catholic schools from kindergarten
through high school, one of which is
run by Cistercian monks. He first
became interested in government and
politics at an early age as
president of his fourth grade class.
He has been fascinated with
political philosophy and public
policy ever since his involvement in
a moral issues research project and
debate on affirmative action in high
school.
Hoping
to integrate an international
perspective into his personal
philosophy and policy preferences,
he is looking forward to the AFIL
experience and after graduation he
plans to get a masters degree in
International Affairs from the Bush
School of Government and Public
Service. He hopes to make a career
of influencing public policy at a
think tank, issue advocacy
organization, or government agency
in Washington, D.C. In order to
narrow his career path, Tony has
interned in D.C. during his summers
for the Republican National
Committee and Americans for
Prosperity. He hopes to intern this
coming summer at a policy think
tank, such as the Heritage
Foundation.
Tony
is currently the chair of MSC
Student Conference on National
Affairs (SCONA), which hosts
a three-day conference in the spring
that brings students from across the
country to Texas A&M to listen to
experts and public figures and to
explore an issue of national or
international significance. He works
at the Glasscock Center for
Humanities Research on campus as an
undergraduate apprentice, helping
the Center advertise and reach out
to undergraduates; he serves as the
student representative on the
“Emphasis on Ethics” Planning
Committee. Tony is a member of
conservative student groups such as
the College Republicans and Young
Conservatives of Texas. He is also
active in community and religious
service through his local church.
Tony
has done undergraduate research on
the ties between Nazism and German
Philosophy and on the Iraq War. He
has received numerous scholarships
during his college career including
the President’s Endowed, University
Scholar, and Ronald Reagan College
Leader Scholarship Program through
the Phillips Foundation.
Although he has traveled abroad to
Italy and Germany for brief periods
of time through the Honors Office
and Cornerstone Program at A&M, Tony
hopes to study and/or intern in
China or the Middle East in the
future in order to gain a better
perspective of U.S. international
relations and foreign policy.
Outside of work and school, Tony
enjoys chess, foosball, debate,
comedy, and reading. |
