Taylor Hawkins
International Studies
Taylor Hawkins
is a junior from Coppell, Texas,
majoring in International Studies
with a focus in Political Science,
Latin America, and Spanish. His
many passions make it difficult to
predict what the future may hold;
however, he hopes to one day serve
in a position focusing on
international community development
and/or education.
Upon graduating
from Texas A&M, Taylor plans to
dedicate two years of service to
either the Peace Corps, WorldTeach,
or another international
organization. After this he will
most likely return to school for a
graduate degree in religion or peace
and justice studies or international
relations.
Taylor focuses
much of his time on involvement in
the A&M and Bryan/College Station
communities. During his freshman
and sophomore years, Taylor
dedicated numerous hours to the
Freshman Leadership Organization,
ASSIST, which focuses on developing
an attitude of servant-leadership in
the hearts of A&M freshmen. Taylor
also was selected as a delegate for
the 2006 Spencer Leadership
Conference, which highlighted the
importance of ethical leadership in
the business community. This year
Taylor is participating in the Bryan
High School Migrant Tutoring Program
which aides Hispanic immigrants by
providing tutoring, ACT/SAT prep,
TAKS practice, and English
assistance. He also looks forward
to being a member of the A&M
organization Global Justice, which
focuses on raising awareness of
global issues on campus.
This past
summer Taylor was blessed with the
opportunity to travel with the L.T.
Jordan Institute to the Dominican
Republic. There Taylor completed an
internship with Save the Children,
lived in a rural community and
provided demographic work for youth
development. This was a very
challenging and enlightening
experience for Taylor and has
encouraged him to explore other
areas and cultures of the world.
In his spare
time Taylor enjoys playing,
composing, and listening to music.
He has been writing his own songs
for over eight years and is planning
on recording an EP sometime during
the fall semester to raise funds for
a trip to Africa. Throughout the
year, Taylor plays several shows at
local venues such as Coffee Station
and Starbucks on Northgate.
Taylor hopes AFIL with further
broaden his horizons by expanding
his knowledge concerning current
events and foreign cultures. Taylor
plans to use this knowledge to
assist him in identifying places
where social injustice exists and to
allow him to more effectively serve
the global community in his future
endeavors. |
