Kolin Loveless
Mechanical Engineering
Kolin Loveless
is a junior Mechanical Engineering
major from Lubbock, Texas, where he
graduated from Trinity Christian
High School with an Advanced
Transcript with Honors. He is
currently participating in the
Engineering Scholars Program and is
pursuing an International
Certificate for Engineering Students
and an Energy Engineering
Certificate from the Dwight Look
College of Engineering and a minor
in Business from the Mays Business
School.
From early in
life, Kolin has shown a sharp
intellect and a talent for quick
learning. At the age of 13, he
scored high enough on the ACT to
gain admission into most colleges,
and received state-wide recognition
from Duke’s TIP program. Two years
later, as a freshman in high school,
he earned 11 hours of college credit
by successfully completing both the
AP Spanish Language and Literature
tests. His hunger for languages
continued as he completed the
equivalent of three years of French
coursework in two academic years
before the age of 17.
In the summer
of 2007, Kolin fulfilled his
life-long dream of traveling to
Europe when he attended the Summer
school program at the Technische
Universität-Darmstadt. While there,
he impressed the program directors
with his commitment to learning that
language and the speed at which his
skills improved. Also, after five
weeks of intensive course work, he
took part in an internship in
Thermal Process Engineering with
graduate students from TU-Darmstadt
and undergraduates from the
University of Illinois and Virginia
Tech University.
Kolin’s time at
Texas A&M is not a story of
immediate involvement and success.
As a freshman, he applied for
several different organizations, but
was not accepted into any of them.
However, he is not one to quit.
After a challenging summer of work
with the Southwestern Company, Kolin
came back to school and found
himself involved in a myriad of
activities from Pi Tau Sigma, a
Mechanical Engineering honors
society, to FarmHouse fraternity,
where he is House Manager of a 25
bedroom house, to the Student
Conference on National Affairs (SCONA).
He currently holds a seat on Student
Senate and is involved in the ASME
Mexico Exchange Program with the
Universidad de Guanajuato FIMEE.
Kolin is also an avid musician. He
has written and recorded several
songs and maintains a myspace page
of his music. In high school, he
also had a successful golf career.
As a senior, he lead a five man golf
team to a state championship and
considers one of his proudest
moments to be sinking a birdie putt
on the last hole of the state
tournament to cap off a run of three
birdies in the last six holes and
clench the title. |
