Katy Britten
English
A native of
Groom, Texas, Katy Britten received
her high school diploma from the
Texas Academy of Mathematics and
Science at the University of North
Texas in 2006, after which she began
her studies at Texas A&M
University. She is currently a
senior working on a degree in
English with a concentration in
Creative Writing Prose, as well as
minors in both French and
Mathematics. She is both a
University Scholar and a President’s
Endowed Scholar, and was inducted
into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa
Phi in the spring of 2007.
Upon entering
Texas A&M, Katy became involved in
Aggies Selflessly Serving to Shape
Tomorrow (ASSIST), a freshman
leadership organization focused
entirely on community service, where
she served on the Community
Committee. She also participated in
Creative Writers of Aggieland and
Legett Hall Council during her first
year. Katy currently serves as a
patient care services volunteer at
St. Joseph’s Hospital, a volunteer
medic for the Texas A&M Emergency
Care Team, and as an AWANA leader
for kindergartners at Grace Bible
Church.
Although Katy
has not yet traveled out of the
country, she hopes to go abroad at
least once or twice during her
undergraduate career at A&M,
possibly to study in France and/or
to volunteer in a medical outreach
program in Africa. After graduating
from Texas A&M, she plans to attend
medical school and spend a
significant amount of time doing
medical outreach abroad as well as
building up her own writing career. Katy is excited about the extensive
opportunities the Academy for Future
International Leaders presents for
her to extend her knowledge about
international issues and current
events and to enlarge her global
perspective. Through the Academy,
she hopes to gain a clearer
understanding of important issues
the world faces today, how they
affect various cultures around the
globe, and how one can work to solve
or improve upon the situations
revolving around such problems. She
is eager to learn from her Academy
classmates and mentors, and looks
forward to becoming better equipped
to make an impact in the community,
and eventually, the world at large. |
