George Stasny
Economics
George Stasny
was born and reared in Bryan, TX and
graduated from Bryan High School in
May of 2006. Although he is now in
his second year at Texas A&M, George
is currently classified as a Junior
and expects to obtain his B.S. in
Economics in May of 2009. He also
anticipates taking a fourth year at
Texas A&M to complete a Master’s
degree in Economics. George is a
National Merit, National AP,
President’s Endowed, and Robert C.
Byrd Scholar.
George began
his time at Texas A&M with a trip to
Italy for the Champe Fitzhugh Honors
Leadership Seminar in July of 2006,
leaving the continent for the first
time in his life. He hopes to
continue his international
experience with guidance and
assistance from the Academy and from
the Study Abroad Office at A&M.
George has been
active in the Memorial Student
Center during his short time on
campus, actively participating in
MSC Aggie Leaders of Tomorrow (ALOT)
and in programming and research for
MSC Wiley Lecture Series in his
freshman year. He is currently the
Director of Development for Wiley,
to which he devotes most of his free
time, and he also works with MSC
Council Development to fundraise for
the entire Memorial Student Center.
This year, George is working with
the Help One Student to Succeed
(HOSTS) program at Mary Branch
Elementary in Bryan, his alma
mater. The HOSTS program pairs
at-risk elementary school students
with mentors who work with them
throughout the year to improve
reading ability.
In high school,
George competed in a monetary policy
competition called Fed Challenge,
where he discovered an interest in
the Federal Reserve System which he
continues to pursue today through
his degree path in economics.
George is still uncertain on where
his career path might take him once
he leaves Aggieland, but his dream
job is to one day be appointed
Chairman of the FOMC.
Internationally, George would love
to spend more time in Mediterranean
Europe and North Africa, although he
also has developed a keen interest
in the economic and political
development of sub-Saharan Africa.
He would like to learn as much as he
can about the challenges faced in
Africa and the reasons why so much
potential remains untapped in that
part of the world.
George’s hobbies and interests
include basketball, Frisbee golf,
motor sports, Aggie football, and
barbequing, but most of all he
cherishes his rare opportunities to
relax outside. |
