Political Science and History
Frank Barat is
a senior from Richardson, Texas,
where he graduated from J.J. Pearce
High School as a National Merit
Scholar. At Texas A&M University,
he has a double major in Political
Science and History. His mother, a
middle school English teacher, first
fostered his sense of cultural
awareness, followed later by the
many outstanding teachers he
encountered from elementary school
through high school.
Frank was on
the path to becoming an actively
involved student even before he set
foot on the Texas A&M campus. In
the summer before his freshman year,
Frank participated in the Champe
Fitzhugh International Honors
Leadership Seminar at the Santa
Chiara Study Center in Castiglion
Fiorentino, Italy. In his freshman
year, Frank joined the Memorial
Student Center’s Aggie Leaders of
Tomorrow freshman leadership
organization, and received the
Memorial Student Center’s (MSC)
First Year Involvement Award for his
contributions. He also joined the
Student Senate in the spring
semester, beginning a continued
involvement in Student Government.
In the following year, Frank
participated in Student Senate as
chairman of the academic affairs
committee and was a member of Caring
Aggies Protecting Over Our Lives
(CARPOOL). Frank served as Speaker
of the Student Senate his junior
year and is currently serving as the
Internal Executive Vice President of
the Student Government Executive
Council as a senior. Throughout his
time at A&M, Frank has been
privileged to participate in
numerous leadership conferences,
including the Big XII Student
Government Conference, the Texas A&M
Conference on Student Government
Association (COSGA), and the MSC
Fall Leadership Conference (twice).
He is a recipient of the
President’s Endowed Scholarship, the
J. Malon Southerland Aggie Leader
Scholarship, and the Buck Weirus
Spirit Award.
In the
immediate future, Frank plans on
traveling to Honduras to participate
in international mission work, and
looks forward to traveling to
Western Europe to study World War II
history. He plans on graduating in
2008 or 2009, depending on study
abroad and other academic
opportunities.
After graduation, Frank hopes to
enroll in law school in order to
continue his education, and seeks to
find a career path that will allow
him to further pursue his passion
for service, policy, and
international affairs.
