David Goodwin
Chemical Engineering
David Goodwin
is a junior Chemical Engineering
major and honors student from
Stephenville, Texas.
Last summer
David did volunteer research in the
cell biology and anatomy labs of the
University of North Texas Health
Science Center. There he studied
human anatomy and the effect that
RPE secreted proteins had on the
differentiation of retinal
progenitor cells.
David plans to
continue his education by attending
medical school or hopefully by
entering one of the limited MST
programs across the nation and
pursuing an M.D. and Ph.D. He hopes
his technical knowledge of
engineering and medical and research
training will help him unite all
aspects of medicine, thus making him
a more effective clinical
physician. He also hopes to put
these skills to use by participating
in sustainable technology and health
projects through Doctors Without
Borders that improve the quality of
life for people in developing
communities around the world.
It was reading an article about the
war in Darfur that ignited David’s
interest in international issues and
dramatically influenced his plans
for the future. The article
described the day-to-day life of a
French doctor living and working in
a camp for those who had been
displaced by the fighting.
Subsequently, David sought out the
Texas A&M student chapter of
Engineers Without Borders and has
been a member since. Currently he
is in charge of Project Mvua, a
project that aims to bring clean
water to a school in Kenya. |
